A Lesson from the Geese

Do you realize that when geese are flying, they usually flew in a " V " shape formation?

Why?

When the geese fly in such a formation, it will travel 71% further than geese that don't adopt such a formation. Why?

The lead goose will maintain the bearing & speed of the formation, the geese behind it will encourage the lead goose to maintain the speed. When the lead goose is tired, it will fall back to the end of the formation and the 2nd goose in formation will take the lead. In addition, the flapping action of the goose create wind for the immediate goose behind it to ride on, hence an easier flying experience. If they a goose lag behind or fly out of formation, it will experience drag from the air, thus this encourage the geese to keep in formation.

If a goose falls sick during the trip, 2 geese from the other end of the formation will fall out of the formation to accompany & protect the sick goose. When the sick goose recovers, the 3 of them will return to the formation.
